Gretna Music for Kids

Study after study cite exposing youth to great music has lifelong benefits. 2018 will kick off a three-year plan of cultural offerings geared towards the 12 and under crowd and the adults who bring them, with the goal that it will become a permanent fixture of our summer series.  More details can be found on each of the pages of the specific events but here’s the overview:

Dan Zanes – Saturday, July 7 11:00 am

Dan Zanes, Grammy-Winning children’s entertainer, will be joined by Claudia Eliaza to present a sensor-friendly one hour concert that explores the music of  famous  American folk and blues musician Lead Belly.  Come early to hear Music for Everyone’s Ukelele Uprising strumming in the streets before the show and stay afterwards to make you own instrument.

Tickets are $5 for any adult who brings a youth, $1 for ages 18 and under, and $10 for everyone else.  Open seating.

The Peking Acrobats – Tuesday, July 24 7:30 pm

The Peking Acrobats are accompanied by live musicians who skillfully play traditional Chinese instruments; the time-honored Chinese music coalesces with high-tech special effects and awe-inspiring acrobatic feats, creating an exuberant entertainment event. In the words of Clive Davis of the New York Post, “THE PEKING ACROBATS [are] pushing the envelope of human possibility,” combining agility and grace in remarkable feats of “pure artistry.”

This is a designated seated event. Tickets are $5 for any adult who brings a youth, $1 for ages 18 and under in the rear left and right seats.  If you wish to upgrade to front or center sections, youth tickets and adult with youth tickets are $10 each.  $19-$25 for everyone else.

Ballet Hispanico – Sunday, Aug 12 2:00 pm

Ballet Hispanico’s Performances for Young People are engaging 50-minute productions that lead students on a guided exploration of Latin American dance forms and music.

Tickets are $5 for any adult who brings a youth, $1 for ages 18 and under, and $10 for everyone else.  Open seating.
