Chuchito Valdés, jazz piano
This performance is presented in partnership with Central PA Friends of Jazz.
August 12 @ 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm
Following in the footsteps of his famed father Chucho and his grandfather, Bebo, Chuchito Valdés is continuing the legacy of great Cuban jazz pianists.
A master of Cuban music including, son, danon, Cuban timba, and guaguanco, Chuchito infuses his music with irresistible Caribbean rhythms. He has also extensively studied classical music, and frequently draws on classical harmonies and forms in his original compositions. Afro-Cuban, cha-cha-cha, son montuna are among the other styles that are in Chuchito’s diverse artistic palette.
Having recorded and performed around the world on his own, and as leader of the renowned Cuban band, Irakere, Cuchito now calls Cancun home, and is a frequent visitor to the United States and Canada.
The Gretna Grooves series is generously sponsored by Brian J. Bubnis, Morgan Stanley.
This concert is generously sponsored by Jim Hipolit, in memory of Colette Hipolit.
Chuchito Valdés’ appearance is generously underwritten by Christyan Seay.

We sell various drinks and snacks, such as water, coffee drinks, soda, and candy, both before the performance and during intermission. The inviting smell of our delicious popcorn is a staple of our performance nights in the playhouse!
